Hello, hello! πŸ‘‹πŸ»

AI is mandatory. Budgets haven't expanded. That's 2026.

The data tells the story: 99% of CMOs say AI is a priority. But 59% lack the budget to execute. Marketing spend is flat at 7.7% of revenue. Meanwhile, 72% of orgs are already using AI, often the Microsoft Copilot your IT team bought for you.Β

The experimental phase is over. 2026 isn't about whether to adopt AI, it's about how do we afford to adopt it strategically.

The Pressure 😩

CMO/VP: Your budget is flat. More AI means killing something else. The CFO wants ROI proof and your board wants vendor consolidation.

SMB Owner: Cash flow dictates everything. You can't afford all these tools but you can't ignore AI while competitors use it. If a tool doesn't show ROI in 60 days, it's gone.

The shared truth: Both need AI to compete. Neither has extra money for it.

You can (easily) launch a newsletter too

This newsletter you couldn’t wait to open? It runs on beehiiv β€” the absolute best platform for email newsletters.

Our editor makes your content look like Picasso in the inbox. Your website? Beautiful and ready to capture subscribers on day one.

And when it’s time to monetize, you don’t need to duct-tape a dozen tools together. Paid subscriptions, referrals, and a (super easy-to-use) global ad network β€” it’s all built in.

beehiiv isn’t just the best choice. It’s the only choice that makes sense.

Audit before you add. Most teams have fragmented AI spend. Marketing bought Jasper, Sales bought Gong, nobody knows who has ChatGPT. Map it. Find overlaps. Kill redundancies. Reclaim your budget.

Build the CFO-ready case. Stop framing AI as "innovation." Frame it as cost reduction:

  • "40% more content, same team"

  • 18% of markets reduced spend on their agencies

  • "Campaigns launch in 2 weeks, not 6"

Start with what's in your stack. You're probably paying for AI you're not using. HubSpot, Mailchimp, Canva, Notion (50% of their revenue is AI), Shopify, all shipped AI features. My favorite tactic is to shut if off and see if anyone complains.Β

Measure hours saved. Forget vanity metrics. Track time: "This task took 4 hours. Now it takes 30 minutes." That's your ROI story.

My 2026 Mindset 🧠

Stop thinking "AI budget." Start thinking "AI reallocation."

I spoke with a solo SMB owner this week who is going to net north of $600K this year. He only uses two AI tools ChatGPT and the AI that runs his paid ad campaigns. No Hubspot, No Notion. The winners won't have the biggest AI spend. They'll use budget pressure as a forcing function for clarity.

Every constraint is a filter. His focus is cashflow. Pick yours.

I put together 10 Money-Saving Marketing Moves with AI, practical ways to cut costs without adding budget.

Stay frugal.
