Onboarding – Here’s🖐🏼 Ways To Use AI To Help

5 Tips for a Smooth & Effective Onboarding Process

Read Time: 3 minutes

Hello, hello!

I’ve been thinking about how AI can help us get new employee team members up to speed faster—especially when talking about onboarding 71 people by December 1st.😬

Back in my Lycos days, our rapid growth meant every new hire started at my desk, because we ran out of office space. 😂 It was chaotic but insightful—I got to know everyone, the culture was shared effectively, and I understood what projects really excited them.

But for a modern, and broadly distributed team, that approach just doesn’t work.

So, here are 5️⃣ ways AI can help make the onboarding process smooth, personalized and effective:

  1. 👹 Meetings are Evil: Use tools like Fathom.ai to share past meeting summaries and clips with new hires—so they can catch up without sitting through hours of calls.

  2. 📧 Streamline Your Email: I use ChatGPT and Zapier with Gmail to write and summarize my emails. It’s perfect for turning corporate jargon into something clear and friendly—plus, you can schedule them to avoid overwhelming new hires.

  3. 🪄 Centralized Knowledge: We use Notion to onboard people on how we work (SOPs, guides to frequently used tools, 2FA) and why (case studies, examples).

  4. 🚀 Build a GPT for FAQs: Set up a quick FAQ bot with ChatGPT Plus—no one likes asking basic questions on Slack when they’re new, and this can help a ton.

  5. 🎉 Make it Fun: Quizzes, podcasts with NotebookLM, and short videos are now just five minutes away—keep onboarding engaging and interactive.
